This study was commissioned by the UIC United Faculty Organizing Committee, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT). It has somewhat more detail about UIC finances because it was commissioned on our Chicago campus. The study was prepared by the AAUP’s national treasurer, an elected office held by Howard Bunsis of Eastern Michigan University. Dr. Bunsis has a law degree and a PhD in accounting. He specializes in analyzing university finances.

I think this is interesting, and I think we'll need more detail on the UI and UIUC pictures to make sense of our situation. The entire picture — lot's coming in, where's it all going ? — is confusing and needs us to all sit down with it and talk it through.
An important point that I had missed, picked up in reading a report about public higher ed funding nationally is..That enrollments go up in recessions, as people quite reasonably get out of a weak job scene and back into school. Or into school, when they might have taken work. And tax revenues fall in recessions –that's some background to the crunch.
