The truth is that I joined the Campus Faculty Association late in my career—only a year or so ago—because I had simply assumed that university professors must be part of a union already! How could we, the ones who teach about the history of people’s struggles, not have already walked that path? It’s important to practice what we preach: that the verb for rights is “to take” not “to give”―rights are always taken and are seldom given without a show of force and unity through collective bargaining. United we win, divided we beg!
