I care deeply about our university and its academic mission. I support unionization because the decisions and the actions of the administration over the past three decades have increasingly been at odds with the true academic mission of this university. The shared governance of the Faculty Senate—in its solely advisory capacity—has been ineffective in reigning in the administration in this regard. Without substantive structural changes, this long-dysfunctional relationship will only deteriorate further, with adverse impact on the university and its academic mission.
