I see collective bargaining as a way to help Illinois faculty work in a spirit of cooperation with each other and with a usually (though not always) well-intentioned administration that sometimes fears or doesn’t think about the collaborative decision making that defines shared governance. Faculty working together have the perspective to represent the values of scholarship and teaching that we see up close and understand as the core values of a great research and teaching university.
