Only a union can provide for truly democratic governance in this age of globalization and enable us to fulfill our public educational mission. Charging outsized tuition to help pay for the hundreds of administrators hired since the great recession while at the same time barely keeping the overall number of professors at the same level and increasing student numbers is most unfortunate. State governments like ours are only partial contributors to the problems we face, as state universities have simply changed their financial priorities to ones that hurt the faculty, the students, and their families.
