From the text of our letter to the CTU:

Dear President Lewis:

I write on behalf of the executive committee of the Campus Faculty Association at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to express the group’s strong support for and sense of solidarity with the Chicago Teachers Union on the eve of its historic strike in support of quality neighborhood school s for the students of Chicago.  Members of our organization had the opportunity to meet with CTU members at a recent forum we cosponsored on the pending strike.  We were extremely impressed with them and what they had to say.

We are sending a small contribution to the Solidarity Fund under separate cover.  Some of us hope to join CTU members on the picket line in the event of the strike and we will be in touch with the Chicago Teachers Solidarity Committee in order to consider other ways to support the strike.

Please share our best wishes and expressions of solidarity with your leadership and your members.  We wish you the very best in a difficult but extremely important struggle for the future of our children.

Sincerely,

James R. Barrett, President

Campus Faculty Association,

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
