Our pensions are at risk: COLA cuts, hikes in retirement age, and salary caps are going to hurt everyone if proposed legislation passes on December 3. In the current pension crisis, who is fighting the hardest to preserve fair benefits? The President of the university and the Chancellors of the three campuses have issued statements opposing the pension changes. We agree with their sentiment. University administrators, however, cannot issue a call to collective action. Only the unions can do this.
AFSCME, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), AFT, and IFT have organized a large, visible, and public effort to stop unfair and harmful pension legislation from passing on December 3. See their website at http://www.weareoneillinois.org/news/oppose-the-leaders-extreme-pension-scheme.
Unions mean voices united against unfair and harmful pension cuts. What happens if the legislation passes? Unions can negotiate ways to offset the loss to their members. Join our efforts!! Call and email your legislators! For a simple way to contact them, see http://www.weareoneillinois.org/news/oppose-the-leaders-extreme-pension-scheme
