A Letter to Our Colleagues at UI Springfield

Dear Colleagues,

We who are members of the Campus Faculty Association of your sister campus in Urbana-Champaign want to offer you our heartfelt congratulations on your great success in returning to your campus’s long tradition of unionized faculty. Your success is an inspiration to us to keep the dream for a university-wide unionized faculty body. Today more than ever before we need a powerful voice at the bargaining table in order not only to protect our pensions, benefits, and fair raises for ourselves, but to fight for our students’ access to affordable higher education and for the principles of service to the state that are at the heart of our great land-grant university. A unionized faculty is the best defense against the growing corporatization of the university and the centralization of power without accountability that has trampled on academic freedom and has made a shambles of faculty shared governance. We in CFA stand in solidarity with you and are ready to assist in any way we can as you forge ahead with your negotiations with the administration.

Congratulations,

Bruce Rosenstock, CFA President
